The DTK building is constructed on top of an existing two-storey complex in Amsterdam West. The folding roofs of the municipality buildings that are adjacent to both sides of the complex were the inspiration sources for a floating structure. As such, DTK is placed on a steel platform overtop of the existing building. The new structure folds towards the west, capturing the afternoon and evening sun. From the side view, DTK’s silhouette fuses with its neighboring buildings to create an organic architectural flow, while the zinc roof cladding accentuates the building’s soft curved shape.
