project type: hotel, apartment complex
client: Minerva Vastgoed
designer: allard architecture
allard architecture was asked to develop a design for a new hotel and apartment complex in Amsterdam accommodating 140 houses and 150 hotel rooms with ample parking. In order to render the project cost-effective, the complex was designed as a system of prefabricated units and much research was put into developing the maximum efficiencies of space and materials. The units are then arranged to maximize daylighting and views, resulting in the triangular-cornered design. Being located on a corner lot also meant that this arrangement also worked well naturally for circulation of both people and vehicles.
