Saudi Arabia deals with strong traditions, such as segregation of the sexes, which is extended in the division of a family house. Our client asked us to design a family house and to break with these traditions, whilst still facilitating them. The design of the house is modern and open minded with respect towards Saudi customs.

The house concists of a closed slab, facade, referring to tradition, this slab contains all service spaces. The dome breaks from this “traditional” slab through an open gallery, a hallway which gazes into the light. All eyes are to be pulled up to the light, almost blinding, to clear out thoughts and lead friends into the world of the family.

The well known city walls of Al-Diriyah inspire us for the traditional Arab facade and customs, from which the rest of the house brakes.

Our client's profesion deals with space Geodesy. "A man's home is a man's castle", a saying quoted from our client. For out client's family we created a personal universe within our grand shared universe.
